In the midst of his 20th season in the league, there is only one more player James has to track down to become the league’s all-time leading scorer: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Abdul-Jabbar has been the NBA’s all-time leading scorer since 1989, a record that has stood for 33 years and counting.

At Lakers Media Day heading into the 2022-23 season, James spoke on what it would mean to him to earn that record.

“The only time I’ve thought about it is when someone posts it on social and I scroll through my feed and see it,” James said. “Every single time I’m kind of in awe of it. Like, wow. …

“To sit here and to know I’m on the verge of breaking probably the most sought-after record in the NBA — things that people say would probably never be done — it’s super humbling for myself and super cool.”

James trails Abdul-Jabbar by 629 points, meaning he will almost certainly take the NBA’s scoring crown at some point this season.

You can find the NBA’s all-time scoring list below, highlighted by three active players who are looking to climb the ranks this season: James, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant.
