Which Michael Connelly Book is ‘Bosch’ Season 7 Based On?
Per the author, the final season takes its inspiration from 2014’s The Burning Room, the 17th story in the franchise.
In the book, Harry Bosch (played by Titus Welliver in the series) investigates the death of a mariachi performer who dies from complications linked to a bullet wound he got a decade earlier—and who may have been the victim of a targeted assassination.
The series, however, takes more inspiration from the second plot of The Burning Room, which concerns an apartment block fire. In the show, this fire is linked to local drug lord Gladys Rodriguez/La Mayorista (Vanessa Born).
There are a number of other big differences. The book gives Bosch a new partner, 28-year-old rookie Lucia Soto, but in the show, the detective is still paired with J Edgar (Jamie Hector).
Which Michael Connelly Book Will the Spin-Off Be Based On?
The Burning Room leaves Harry Bosch in a new position, with the character retiring from the LAPD after being suspended indefinitely. The next book in the series, The Crossing, shows the character working as a criminal defense investigator, while the book after that, The Wrong Side of Goodbye, sees him become a private investigator.
Speaking about how closely the spin-off will follow the books, Natalia Castellanos, who played Susanna Lopez in Bosch, told Express.co.uk: “I don’t personally know everything that’s going to be coming to fruition… but I know that it will follow Michael Connelly’s books.”
As Bosch did before it, the spin-off is set to make some big changes to the source material. It has been confirmed that in the new series, Bosch—again played by Welliver—will team up with Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers). In the books he worked with Lucia Soto and then Bella Lourdes after leaving the LAPD.
In a statement, Connelly said: “I am beyond excited by this and I think the fans that have called for more Bosch will be as well. To continue the Harry Bosch story and see him team up with ‘Money’ Chandler will be more than I could have ever wished for… I can’t wait to get started.”
