Dragon Age: Absolution follows elven mercenary Miriam and her friend Roland as they are recruited by a ragtag group of fellow adventurers to help steal a powerful artifact called the Circulum Infinitus. To do this, the team will have to infiltrate the formidable Tevinter Imperium – a place the formerly enslaved Miriam would rather not return to. The series is full of heist hijinks, magic, and plenty of Dragon Age goodness, as well as providing some interesting setups for the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. But while the majority of the cast consists of new faces for the franchise, there are a few returning figures that fans should look out for.

Game Characters In Dragon Age: Absolution

Early on in the series, audiences will be able to spot a few members of the Inquisition as the heist party are tasked with retrieving the Circulum Infinitus from Tevinter. Cassandra is the only Inquisition adviser that has lines, but fans will definitely recognize the spymaster Leliana by her side. Both of these characters have already appeared in multiple Dragon Age games, so it’s no surprise they’ve been drawn upon again to feature in the series’ wider multimedia. Fairbanks, the freedom fighter who recruits Miriam alongside her former flame Hira, might also be familiar to fans as a minor NPC who leads a group of Orlesian refugees in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

In the final episode of Dragon Age: Absolution Hira’s treachery is revealed, and a flashback shows her approaching the Inquisition at Skyhold to help her take revenge against Tevinter. During this section, audiences can see the Inquisitor’s advisers Cullen, Cassandra, and Josephine in the throne room as Hira walks away after her disappointing confrontation with Leliana. The biggest surprise, however, comes at the end of the last episode. Knight-Commander Meredith – a major part of Dragon Age 2 – is revealed to be alive and in league with Hira, although the former Templar is still incased in red lyrium.

How Dragon Age: Absolution Will Impact Dreadwolf

There’s still no word on whether Dragon Age: Absolution will receive a second season, but the first installment certainly created some interesting plot threads to tie up. With Hira on the run with the Circulum Infinitus and Miriam and friends in hot pursuit, it’s likely a second season would focus on the fallout of the mage’s betrayal. However, the revelation of Meredith’s involvement and her commitment to waging a war against the Tevinter Imperium could also come into play in the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Given the next game’s Tevinter setting, Meredith’s schemes could have an impact on the next installment’s plot alongside Solas’ own machinations to destroy the Veil.

It was also briefly referenced in Dragon Age: Absolution that the Inquisition has been disbanded. This will presumably be a canon choice moving forward, even though it was a player choice at the end of Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Trespasser DLC. In previous BioWare sequels, gamers have been able to take their various decisions through to the new installment, so it will be interesting to see how this is handled in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. However, the Inquisition and its current status may end up being a minor plot point if the action moves to the Tevinter Imperium rather than its Orlaisian or Ferelden focus in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Dragon Age: Absolution is streaming now on Netflix.
