It means that Apple TV+ is the first streaming service to win an Oscar for best picture; though technically the company only paid for distribution rights, rather than creating it in-house. Cruella

Drive My Car

Dune

Synopsis: Based on the Frank Herbert novel, director Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi follows the story of a young man who tries to protect his planet against a battle to claim a precious resource.

Encanto

Won: Best animated feature

Synopsis: The Madrigals are a magical family, living hidden in the Colombian mountains, each of whom are blessed with a special gift. All except Mirabel, who steps up when the family’s magic is under threat.

King Richard

Won: Best actor (Will Smith)

Synopsis: The story of tennis legends Venus and Serena’s father, Richard Williams, and his unfaltering efforts to ensure his daughters achieve greatness.

No Time to Die

The Power of the Dog

Won: Best director (Jane Campion)

Synopsis: Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Phil Burbank, a cruel yet charismatic rancher who torments his brother’s new wife and her son, in this slow-burning western.

Where to stream: Netflix is the only place where you can watch The Power of the Dog, though it did originally screen in select theaters. You can’t buy or rent it elsewhere.

West Side Story

Won: Best supporting actress (Ariana DeBose)

Synopsis: Steven Spielberg’s take on the musical classic, in which two New York gangs fight for territory—though can love triumph over violence?
